What do I do after brushing the paste onto my teeth? You need to brush again using ordinary toothpaste to get rid of the bitter taste of the hydrogen peroxide. Smokers, coffee drinkers and even grandparents may use this remedy to reduce the heavy stains on their teeth.

Can I use this paste with sensitive teeth or gums? In the case that, you have gingivitis, cavities, open sores, or other gum problems, the paste may make your gums look pale for a short time. However, remember that you should contact a dentist or even a doctor before trying this treatment.

Dogs’ Heart Worm, Fleas And other Parasites

You really need to get rid of heart worm, fleas and other parasites in dogs whenever it becomes obvious that your dog is infected by using the appropriate treatment on them. Loads of medications have come onto the market to defend our dogs from heart worms, fleas and other parasites like hook worms, whip worms, round worms, lice, ticks etc.

Of the heart worms, fleas and other parasites, fleas can produce a hyper sensitive reaction in the infected animal. Animals infested with fleas scratch their skin very vigorously. Often the scratching becomes so bad that the skin becomes super-sensitive and dermatitis occurs in the affected areas.

The result of a serious flea infestation is often that your dog can not lie down for long or sleep properly because of the persistent flea bites. Therefore, the animal looks as if has some severe skin issues. If the your dog is not properly treated for these flea bites, there could be a secondary bacterial attack in these sites and there may even be a bad smell coming from the affected area of the animal’s skin.

You need to inspect your dog closely in order prevent a serious infestation. It is essential to prevent such an outbreak as they are extremely distressing to dogs. Similarly, the skin of the animal needs to be checked regularly for the presence of ticks and lice. In order to do this properly, you need to look at the dog’s skin by separating the dog’s hairs. The easiest way to achieve this is by slowly back-combing or ruffling the dog’s hair.

Often, if your pet is anaemic, and it is not he result of being plagued by too many fleas, you need to rule out hookworm. Symptoms of hookworm are usually anaemia, loose stools and a pot belly. The dog’s owner may notice these symptoms by themselves, however, speaking honestly, the dog ought to undergo a routine health check at the vet’s, which involves both faecal and hematological tests.

There are many commercial products available on the market, some of which are effective for dealing with all these conditions by a single dose. Drugs like ivermectin are highly efficacious and are obtainable in injection, oral and solution forms. The latter should be applied directly on the dog’s skin. These drugs can induce the prevention of the above conditions too.

Therefore, the best strategy to follow is to keep a keen eye on your dog. This can most easily be carried out at bath time and when you are grooming him. You can use an anti-flea and anti-tick shampoo, which will keep these pests under control, if used as stated on the bottle. Couple this with regular grooming with a lice comb and the use of a flea collar should keep your pet tick, lice, and flea free.

Migraine Relief Possible From Acupuncture

Acupuncture can help treat migraines. This was discovered after a comparative study was done with conventional medical care. In some cases, it even prevents it from happening which helps improve the quality of life for the patient. To understand how acupuncture helps migraine sufferers, you have to understand that in traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that an imbalance in the flow of blood and energy causes this to happen.

To treat it, the consultant must relieve the stress by inserting needles into the body to boost the blood flow to the brain so reducing the discomfort experienced in an attack. The needles used helps the body balance the serotonin levels since it’s a neurotransmitter that has an effect on veins and has a role to play in headaches. In reality the more frequent these sessions are the better. It may even come to a point where the categorical contact point is no longer required but the general kick itself.

The final result of undergoing acupuncture is astounding. If you experience fifteen to twenty days of unpleasant pain, this is going to be count down to only 8 days. You won’t need to use that much medicine any more as before. For those that are working, this is good so that they are not absent from work that much and there won’t be that much deductions in their earnings.

But how well acupuncture does for one patient may change with another. This relies upon the state of the assault and the individual. The better part about acupuncture is that there are no side-effects and it is painless. Skillful execs can do this so you do not suffer with hematoma or pneumothorax. Another illness is doubtless perilous is HIV or hepatitis which can be prevented naturally so long as the needles used are properly sterilised. It’s going to be much better if the person uses dispensable needles.

Acupuncture has been practiced in the United States for more than 2 decades. Although tests have shown how effective it can be to treat chronic conditions and certain addictions, more studies need to be done to see where else it can be useful. Although one test has proven that acupuncture can help migraines, other tests will also have to be done to prove if this is true. Until such time that other results are published, patients will have to rely on conventional medicine that is prescribed by a doctor.

But you do not have to attend for the results to come out. If you believe it is worth a try, go for it. Just ask for a referral from your GP as there are several practitioners who have accepted the indisputable fact that alternative types of medicine can also help a patient. You may also find somebody on the web. You can be certain they’re certificated if they’re recognized by the nation’s Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Apart from that, you have to also make some life changes as there are trigger factors that’ve been famous for causing headaches. Stress is number one on the list so you get enough rest and exercise as well as a healthful diet. Patients that suffer from headache should also check if acupuncture is covered by their HMO. Most insurance providers and HMO’s today cover part of the pricetag but there are restrictions so you check what’s covered by your policy.

What Are Coital Headaches?

Although orgasm is usually a pleasurable and happy experience for most people, it can become painful for those who find that it triggers coital headaches. For these people, sexual activity can actually cause these coital headache attacks.

Technically, a headache, or cephalalgia, is a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and sometimes the neck too. They can be classified into two main categories: primary or idiopathic, and symptomatic, although there are other ways of classifying them too; for example by severity.

Put simply, primary headaches have a known or unknown cause, whereas symptomatic headaches are often caused by trauma. Primary headaches include: migraine, tension headaches, cluster headaches and coital headaches, amongst others.

Coital headaches, also called coital cephalalgia or sexual headaches, is a rare, but severe form of headache that starts in the nape of the neck during sexual intercourse, but before climax. It can occur in all conditions where climax is the expected result. The pain can move to behind the eyes and can then be even worse. Typically the pain will last from a few minutes to an hour or so, but it has been known to last for days in the worst cases.

Men are three times more at risk to coital headaches than women and the age groups most at risk are those between 20 and 25 and 30 and 44. Nobody really understands why this should be. Coital headaches afflict about one percent of the population, although this figure could be a lot higher due to people being embarrassed to talk about it.

Coital headaches are benign, meaning that they cause no long-term ill effects, as far as doctors know. It seems that people taking sexual stimulants, like Viagara, are about 10% more at risk to a bout of coital headache. In fact, besides the obvious, temporary pain, the worst effects of coital headaches are differing levels of dizziness, confusion and stiffness of neck.

However, it is still worth visiting a doctor though, especially in the beginning, just to exclude the more severe causes of headaches, such as brain tumours and blood clots. However, the doctor can do rather little to help by way of therapy. He could suggest a complete abstention from any form of sexual activity for a period ranging from days to weeks or he may suggest trying taking medication some time before sexual foreplay begins.

Some of the headache medications that can be used are indomethacin, imitrex, zomig and propranolol, although if the headaches persist, your doctor could prescribe daily preventive medication. People suffering from frequent coital headaches may obtain a positive response to migraine preventive medications, such as beta blockers or verapamil. Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen may similarly be helpful. Coital headaches and migraines are also more likely to occur if a person is in poor physical health.

Nevertheless, the treatment for coital headaches for many people can be as ‘easy’ as adjusting your weight up or down to the norm for your size. Coital headaches can also be treated in some sufferers by an increased level of exercise, although this may bring on exertion headaches in some people.

Now the good news is that most headaches related to sexual activities are not at all serious in nature. In deed, research actually states that orgasm can stop headaches and even migraine in some instances. This means that for some adults, refusing sex may actually be the cause of their headache in the first place.

Treatments for Headaches

When we are suffering from a headache we generally think of ways to stop the pain. However, as there are different types of headaches, sometimes the treatments may work for only a few headache types. There are two different ways of curing the pain caused by headaches. These types of headache treatment are called prophylactical and abortive headache treatment.

The prophylactic treatment must be taken everyday in order to reduce the frequency of the attacks and to control the severity of the headache. Abortive headache treatment is commenced only when the headache starts.

However, you should understand that your physician will not prescribe any prophylactic headache treatment unless you are having several, frequent headache attacks every month. Furthermore, when you take the prophylactic medication you will be monitored for side effects like weight gain, water retention, lethargy, memory impairment and hallucinations.

The treatment of headaches with prophylactic medication begins with a low dose. The dose amount is then increased as time passes. You will be tested every month or so to see if the treatment is taking effect. Your doctor will also make sure that, during this phase of your headache treatment, you are not taking any other types of medicine or vitamins.

It is very important to know whether the sufferer is or becomes pregnant. If you do become pregnant, then your doctor should be informed so that tests can be done to discover any possible effects to the foetus.

The primary prescription drugs used for the treatment of headaches are beta blockers like Tenormin and Lopressor. Calcium channel blockers such as Cardizem, Dilacor, and Procardia are also prescribed. Doctors may also prescribe anti-depressants like Elavil and Zoloft. You may also be given Serotonin Antagonists like Sansert.

Usually, anti-convulsants such as Tegretol, Depakote, and Dilantin are also given for headache treatment. Cafergot and Sansert (ergot derivatives) could also be given by your doctor. The ‘abortive’ headache treatment types available for your headache pain are usually the ‘over the counter’ (OTC) type. These include Paracetamol, Aspirin, Tylenol, Panadol, Motrin, and Advil to mention only a few. Tylenol and Panadol are known as Acetaminophen drugs. Motrin and Advil belong to the family of drugs known as Ibuprofen.

Besides these headache treatments, medications include nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. The side effects of NSAIDs like Naprosyn and Meclomen include nausea, gastrointestinal pain, dizziness, diarrhea, light-headedness and constipation. These headache treatment medications can also cause some people to get a different type of headache.

Since these drugs can cause other problems you should consult your doctor and find out whether they are suitable for you or not. People who prefer an ‘alternative’ headache treatment should ask their doctor whether he thinks it will work.

Animals, Fleas, Ticks and Worms

Fleas and other parasites need always to be given the top priority by dog owners. The all too common incidences of flea bite allergy in the case of dogs causes worry to many dog owners every year. This is because flea bites can induce allergic reactions in the area bitten by the fleas. In these cases, the affected area becomes hairless due to the dog scratching itself vigorously.

Heavy flea infestations can cause severe dermatitis in dogs. If the flea bites cause allergic reactions or dermatitis in the dog, it really ought to be taken to the vet, because on many occasions, the dog will be experiencing severe discomfort.

The vet will provide a salve to ease the itching and powder or a spray to kill the fleas. Therefore, prevention is better and medicated collars are available to treat and prevent an infestation of external parasites like ticks and fleas.

Besides fleas, other parasites like ticks and lice in addition to the internal parasites like hook worms, round worms, whip worms etc. can affect the health of your dog. For example, if hookworm infects a dog, that dog will usually suffer from anaemia. The signs of anaemia become more evident depending on the degree of infection by the hookworm.

Hookworm larvae can pass directly through the skin and cause problems inside the affected dogs. Such dogs may reveal cuts due to dermatitis on the paws and on the skin. Frequently, skin rashes are the result in such cases and the affected animal passes loose stools, which are tinged red with blood.

Most dogs and all puppies get round worms, which is why dogs can often be seen rubbing their bottoms along the floor. However, if round worms are present in large numbers, affected puppies show a pot belly, which is easily recognized by dog owners themselves. Piperazine salts are given orally for the treatment of this problem. However, broad-spectrum anthelmintics like pyrantel pamoate, fenbendazole etc. are also given to treat this condition.

Many drugs have arrived on the market to treat fleas and other parasites, although nowadays, the medical agent called ivermectin seems to be preferred by many dog owners to clear up fleas and other parasites in dogs. This drug is available for injection or oral use and is now even available for external application too.
